Duncan Krummel is a composer, singer, and pianist from Hood River, OR. His music has been performed around the world, with notable performances at the Valencia International Performance Academy & Festival; the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; Ithaca College Television (ICTV); and by numerous world-renown performers, including flautist Erik Drescher and Grammy-nominated violinist Peter Sheppard Skærved. Duncan has written extensively for various media, having scored more than a dozen films, documentaries, and TV shows (including ICTV’s award-winning Campus Retreat); several plays and musicals; and a host of other projects.
As a performing musician, Duncan was a featured performer for several shows with the California Regional Theater, the Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association (CGOA), and has been a pit musician for Chico State University, Theatre CamilleLynne, Hood River Valley High School (HRVHS), and CGOA. He has toured Ireland and England as part of the HRVHS Chamber Singers, performed on-stage at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in NYC with the IC Choir, and has performed a wide range of repertoire on piano. Though now disbanded, Duncan was a cofounder and leading member of the Irish folk band, Just Folkin’ Around.
He has taught all ages in music, including voice and piano pedagogy, composition and theory, and as a music director. He currently teaches piano, voice, and composition privately, and directs for local theatres in the Columbia Gorge area. He was the music director for the Columbia Gorge School of Theatre from 2017-2019, and a music director with the California Regional Theatre from 2021-2023. In addition to his work in the non-profit sector, he served as the Director of Education at the Apollo School of Music during the 2020-2021 COVID-19 pandemic, designing and implementing curricular solutions for effective and safe distance learning.
Duncan holds an M.A. in Composition from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, UK, where he studied composition, and conducting; and a B.M. in Composition from Ithaca College, where he studied composition, film scoring, vocal performance, piano, and conducting.
